Thalaivar 170

The film, officially announced in March 2023 under the tentative title Thalaivar 170, is the 170th film of Rajinikanth as a lead actor. The official title, Vettaiyan, was revealed in December 2023. Principal photography took place from October 2023 to August 2024, with locations including Thiruvananthapuram, Tirunelveli, Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. The film features music by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by S. R. Kathir, and editing by Philomin Raj.

Vettaiyan is set to release worldwide on October 10, 2024, coinciding with Vijayadashami. The makers recently unveiled the film’s prevue, showcasing a stellar cast that includes Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, and Manju Warrier. Directed by TJ Gnanavel, known for Jai Bhim, this film marks the reunion of Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan after 32 years.

The prevue hints at serious themes, particularly the moral dilemmas surrounding police encounters. Amitabh Bachchan’s character, Sathyadev, opposes the glorification of such encounters, while Rajinikanth’s character argues for their necessity in achieving social justice. This film promises a departure from the typical portrayal of Rajinikanth’s characters, who are often seen as action-oriented without regard for consequences.

While the prevue highlights the main characters of Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, it reveals little about Rana Daggubati and Fahadh Faasil’s roles. Vettaiyan will be produced by Lyca Productions and will release in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.
